(504) I ain't - Mike Jones. Call me Barbara Bush!
School classroom in New Orleans, April 2007, from jsdart's flickr stream:
Amazing, that it can be April 2007, and damage like this continues to fester. And to think I was shocked in June of 2006 (nearly a year ago and nearly a year after Hurrican Katrina) when I was in New Orleans at how little had been cleared.
Finished When the Levees Broke tonight. The documentary captures the outrage, heartache, perseverance, and extraordinarily justified mistrust of the people of New Orleans in a way I never imagined possible. Sure it was done by Spike Lee, so tons of people will say its disgustingly biased. Bias or not, the documentary showed real residents telling their stories. I've always been a sucker for oral histories, and thank god people are documenting the stories of survivors' of not so much a weather disaster but a total governmental and humanitarian failure at all levels. Recommended viewing, but maybe pace out the four hours so as not to depress and anger the bejeebus out of you.
