mash up(dates)

I saw Stranger than Fiction last night with Jane and JP. It was more romantic-comedy than I was expecting, but it was good anyway. It made me think about my writing this month, which as I'm sure you can figure out due to my lack of updates, is faltering. I haven't written in a week. I have ideas in my head, but I am unable to transfer them to the computer. I also feel like what I have to say is stupid, and I'm battling my lack of self-confidence. I don't think I'm that horrid of a writer, but I'm painfully aware of anytime my 'novel' leans into horrid stereotypical pretentious drivel. I guess my NaNoWriMo will become NaNoWriDOSMo. I will finish it though. It's the only creative outlet that I enjoy doing, so I'm sticking to it.

Tonight I'll go to Ed's birthday party, and maybe Pub Quiz as long as the topics look good.

Every morning lately I've gotten ready with Phoenix's "If I Ever Feel Better" on repeat, and I dance around like an idiot. Living alone is great.

I'm so excited for my vacation I can hardly contain myself. A preview for The Pursuit of Happyness played before the movie last night. It takes place in San Francisco, and much of it was filmed right outside my apartment. I got all giddy seeing the hills, the ocean, the streets. I will be there soon enough, shamelessly loving my favorite city ever, devouring my favorite foods, walking on my favorite streets, seeing my favorite homeless people... I'll miss my Chicago friends that week though, I love them too. I'm just a ball of mush.

I'm re-visiting Andrea Dworkin, with a reading of Pornography: Men Possessing Women. I haven't read her since college, and I'm hoping to get re-educated on her anti-pornography stance.

I feel like most men-- even those who enjoy and utilize pornography to stimulate themselves into having an erection that they then use to masturbate with-- wouldn't consider themselves as "for" pornography.

I guess some people do. It wouldn't be that easy to justify though, especially given current trends.

I don't agree with Dworkin 100%, I think some pornography, women-centric, women-created, women-positive porn is great. Its the degrading "I'm going to jizz all over your face and you'll like it you ho" that makes me pissed off.

Well that's what I'm saying--how many dudes/bros would actually defend that kind of porno? Yet they all like it on some level.

I think women-centric, women-created, women-positive porn is great... for women. Not that men necessarily couldn't enjoy it to some extent.

But shouldn't there exist some middle of the road that both men and women could enjoy without putting either in a position of power? Or is our sexual reality such that something like that might not even be possible?

Why do they like it? Why can't they like a porn that just has two people doing it? Regular people, who are both enjoying humping and are respectful of each other? I think women-made porn is generally very equitable in terms of what it shows. It doesn't put the woman in a position of power over than man in the films - it just lets the woman not get cum blasted and fist fucked over and over while she looks like shes perhaps not 100 percent willing to be there.

Then again, by saying porn should be always equitable I'm basically dissing s&m fetishes...which I don't know if I want to be dissing that. I don't know. I'm blabbing.

gramz, you've used that 1st line before...BUSTED

I find porn in which women appear uninterested, or worse, subjcted to pain, to be unarousing. There's nothing that turns me on about a woman being choked on a penis. However, I don't think that porn needs to be "woman-positive" to be acceptable. Perhaps just not woman-negative. Men are much larger consumers of porn, so it only makes sense that most porn will appeal more to men's desires than to women's. It's when it does so at the expense of the woman that I'm bothered.

Facial cum shots are not something I really care for, but the only part of "I'm going to jizz all over your face and you'll like it you ho" that bothers me is the "you ho" part. What's wrong with "You're going to jizz all over my face & I'll like it", or "I'm gonna eat your pussy & I'll like it"? Why must a blow job be considered degrading to women? I don't find cunnilingus degrading to men. Clearly some porn is intended to be degrading, but I'd bet that gay porn has plenty of male-directed degradation. Not that I condone that, I simply mean to point out that it can be directed at men as well.

In short, I don't think porn needs to be expressedly magnanimous to be acceptable. It just needs to be devoid of an abusive intent towards any of the partners.
