Touch and Go 25th Anniversary Party

This weekend was the Hideout 10th Anniversary/Touch and Go 25th Anniversary Block Party. Out of all the bands there, I saw the following (when I say saw, I mean I actually watched. Sometimes I was there but not listening): Girls Against Boys, Ted Leo + Pharmacists, !!!, Killdozer, Scratch Acid, Big Black, The Monorchid, Enon, Three Mile Pilot, Seam, The Black Heart Procession. Pretty insane line up right? It was great. I heard other bands in the background, but these were the ones I came to see.

Friday - !!! was fun. It wasn't super dancey like it has been every other time I've seen them. I blame that on the fact that they played at 9 pm, and that its impossible to have an awesome intimate dance show when 5,000 people are there. Nevertheless, I jumped around and danced like an idiot. You only live once, and I'm only getting older, so I may as well act stupid while I can.

Friday night after !!!, I went to the Note to see the Haymarket Riot (who knew they were still around?) and the Monorchid. THANK GOD I went Friday (more on that later). The Monorchid were sloppy but I really enjoyed it. It was just a fun set. And a small crowd.

Saturday - Scratch Acid was awesome. David Yow was great on stage. Big Black played their four songs, and it was pretty good. Not an Albini fan, so I wasn't really feeling it.

Sunday - Bring on the rain. Holy shit it was cold and awful and rainy today. I was considering just ditching, but today had a bunch of bands I wanted to see that I'd never see again. So I sucked it up and went over there. I got there as the Monorchid was playing. Turns out they busted their bass amps, so they played only two or three songs. See? This is why I'm so glad I went to the Note on Friday to see them. Then I saw Three Mile Pilot, which was insane. It was a serious blast from the past, and was a good time. However the best band I saw on Sunday was the black heart procession, despite that horrid Tom Petty cover they did.

The other highlights of the weekend are as follows:
1. Alycia came down, and we went to lunch at Ear Wax with JP. Talked films and boys and jobs. I always love an Alycia visit.

2. I watched the first two discs of Lost Season 2. I'll be ready to watch Season 3 when it starts up, which I can't wait to see. I've never watched it during the season, so this time I'm going to watch with pals. It'll be fun.

And now I'm home, warming up with couscous and chicken, and feeling very music-nostalgic.
