Pan Sonic @ the Empty Bottle, 9/13/06

Last night I went to see Pan Sonic at the Empty Bottle. It was the first show that I've ever been to totally alone. I didn't know anyone there, and didn't expect to know anyone there. I went late, so I could avoid any awkward standing around in the corner by myself problems. My timing ended up being perfect. Pan Sonic was setting up as I walked in, and started about 15 minutes after I got there. I ordered a drink and listened in on people's conversations. Lots of idiot talk with idiot words like "minimalist noisecorefreeavantballscock glitch'n'clix beep blip." Tons of hot dudes. The atmosphere was nice, and it wasn't nearly as crowded as I was expecting. I guess the scene for this stuff in Chicago isn't as big as it is in San Francisco. I also couldn't help but wish I was seeing this at Recombinant in SF. Best venue for this stuff ever.

Pan Sonic came on at 11:30 and immediately I knew my ears were in for some serious assault. The bass was so incredibly loud. Every inch of me was vibrating, and I had to stand with my feet well planted to the floor or else I felt like I was going to fall over. Awesome. My snot got rocked loose, my heart started palpatating, and my ears felt like they were bleeding. I could feel the bloodflow in my veins adjust to every beat. Pan Sonic played 45 minutes, took a 2 minute break, and played another 10. They were so good at what they do - weaving some hot beats with intense fuzz and screech and never giving you the chance to get bored with the repetitions(wait...now I'm sounding like the idiots there). It was incredible. I'm so glad that I decided to suck up any nerves about being alone, and go last night. In fact, I'm going to do this again sometime.

I walked home and couldn't hear anything. Still can't really hear today.
