First cold of the season and dog's trip to the vet

I've been sick with a cold since Wednesday, which is really frustrating. I think I got sick maybe 2 times in my time in San Francisco. In Madison and Omaha, I was sick all the time with colds, and I'm worried that this is only the beginning of a long winter of snot and sore throats. I'm missing out on karaoke with friends tonight to rest up. I tried going out last night but didn't have much fun because of my runny nose, and I'm sure it only exacerbated any symptoms. Plus, by staying in tonight I can get some work done on my project for Alycia.

Today Audrey went to the vet. I took her to Roscoe Village Animal Hopsital on a recommendation from a coworker. The place was great! Not crowded, everyone was extremely friendly, and the vet really liked Audrey. Audrey needed her vaccines and I wanted to talk about her anxiety and aggression problems. There was a moment out of a horror movie that happened: after the vet drew blood for a heartworm test, she was sealing the vial or something, and the capsule snapped in half! Blood splattered everywere - all over the vet, in her hair, on my arms. It was disgusting. All I could thing was "thank god its a dog and not a human"! Poor Audrey.

I'm not keen on using prescription drugs on my dog for her anxiety, and the vet didn't want to start on that right away yet either. Instead, we are trying 6 mg of melatonin. I can get it at Target or Dominics, and its safe for use on a dog. It should take full effect in 1-2 weeks, and if it doesn't then we will seek other drugs. However, prescription drugs can wreak havoc on her liver because she is so small. So we'll see what happens. Melatonin may be a wonder drug for her - it could help her hair loss problem and may calm her down. I gave her the first dose today and it hasn't really done much, so I have to try and be patient these next two weeks while I wait for it to hopefully kick in.
